Therapy with horses at Délvic Riding Club – San Fernando Infant and Primary Education School
Fundación para la Promoción del Deporte Ecuestre and San Fernando School, from Elche, have signed their first cooperation agreement to support the development of the program “Therapy with horses at Délvic Riding Club”.
5 equine assisted therapy sessions were conducted during the school year; that is: two sessions each quarter from May to December, for the benefit of 6 students, all diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). The peculiarity of this initiative is that it’s considered schoolwork and it takes place within school hours.
The main goal of this project was to assess the benefits of these complementary activities as a therapeutic method to improve the skills and personal autonomy of children suffering from ASD.
Fundación para la Promoción del Deporte Ecuestre promotes the use of Horse Assisted Therapy with children suffering from ASD because it helps them break their isolation from the rest of the world, overcome their fears and reduce their anxiety and inhibitions.
