Assisted Therapy Program for Youths with Intellectual Diversity – Fundación Carriegos

For the 11th time, Fundación para la Promoción del Deporte Ecuestre and Fundación Carriegos, from León. have signed a cooperation agreement to support their horse assisted therapy program for youths with intellectual diversity.

 
The beneficiaries of the program were 10 youths aged form 6 to 26, with low, medium or severe intellectual diversity.
The general goals of the program involved work on the psychomotor, sports, cognitive, behavioural, language and communication, emotional and affective areas. The interdisciplinary team of professionals designed a specific work routine for the needs of each participant, developed the contents for the sessions and assessed the results obtained with the different activities.
The program was held on a weekly basis through 45 minutes sessions, held at the premises of Fundación Carriegos, from February to December 2018.

Participants could improve their communication, cognitive and social skills and benefited from regular therapeutic exercise, something Fundación para la Promoción del Deporte Ecuestre considers essential to maintain the improvements.
