Inclusive Sports at School – Fundación Caballo Amigo
Fundación Caballo Amigo, based in Villafranca del Castillo (Madrid), started in 2018 the program “Deporte Inclusivo en la Escuela” (“Inclusive Sports at School”). Fundación para la Promoción del Deporte Ecuestre has been willing to support this new program, since both Foundations have already settled 13 cooperation agreements.
This program was born to conduct a one day clinic held on November 6th, to train 12 horse riding coaches and PE teachers form the Madrid Region on Diversity related issues, to favour the social inclusion of paraequestrian riders in their mainstream riding schools.
The clinic tackled issues like the benefits of horse riding as an inclusive sport, assessing the functional classification of riders towards paraequestrian dressage competition, techniques to mount and dismount riders with motor impairments or on wheel chairs, specific equipment adaptations, and the importance of having assistant workers or callers in the track to guide riders with visual impairment.
Horse riding is a sport that persons with and without diversity can practise together, adapted to the possibilities of each rider, for sport, leisure and competition purposes, and from an inclusive approach, Fundación para la Promoción del Deporte Ecuestre has supported this program.
