Horse Assisted Interventions Program for youths with functional diversity – Asociación Unicorn
The first cooperation agreement between Fundación para la Promoción del Deporte Ecuestre and Asociación Unicorn, from Barcelona, was set in order to launch a Horse Assisted Interventions Program for youths with functional diversity.
The intervention program began in December 2017 and ended in June 2018, involving 8 participants.
Two sessions were conducted in December 2017, and a monthly session from March to June 2018, always scheduled during the weekend. In total, there were 6 sessions, two hours each.
The project targeted a group of youths aged 15 to 19, members of Asociación Entramat, all suffering from intellectual diversity and other conditions (one of them with reduced mobility). Interventions involved different activities, Therapeutic Riding among them.
All youths had the opportunity to practise physical exercise, and the conclusions of the final evaluation are that their levels of autonomy, confidence and communication have improved, so all the professionals are willing to continue with the program, which is very important for Fundación para la Promoción del Deporte Ecuestre.
