Horse Assisted Intervention program – Centro Nazareno de Terapias Ecuestres La Herradura

The 8th cooperation agreement between Fundación para la Promoción del Deporte Ecuestre and Centro Nazareno de Terapias Ecuestres La Herradurada, from Sevilla, shaped the sponsorship of their horse assisted intervention program.

The program targeted 8 patients of the San Lucas Day Care Unit, suffering from intellectual diversity and Behavioural Disorders, within an age range from 20 to 50. The program was running throughout the year, except for the summer months, with group sessions for two hours a week, what means that each participant received 35 hoursof therapy.
The program was arranged in two blocks: Riding activities and foot on ground activities like horse grooming and care. Riding activities specially focused on the particular needs of each participant, with specific targets for their physical, cognitive, psychological, social and language and communication development.

Fundación para la Promoción del Deporte Ecuestre works to improve the quality of life, personal growth and autonomy of persons with physical, cognitive, psychological and sensory diversity, by sponsoring associations as La Herradura, where they receive education, training and support to overcome the life challenges they have to face.
