Equine physiotherapy Certification
The Foundation for the Promotion of Equestrian Sport and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine from the Complutense University of Madrid, signed a cooperation agreement to enable the first edition of a new certification: «Expert on the basis of Physiotherapy and Animal Rehabilitation».
The classes began in October 2012 and ended in July 2013, in which 16 students from all over the Spanish geography were able to attend.
Throughout the course, thematic areas relating to Functional Anatomy, Biomechanics, Basic and Functional Neurology; Locomotive Physiology, Pain Physiology, Behavior, physiotherapy Evaluation, Manual Therapy, Physical Therapy, Exercise Physiology and Training or Bases of Diagnostic by image, have been covered. The thematic modules are developed by a theoretical and a practice, divided in 50% each of the contact hours.
Also, two visits were paid to:
- The Military Center in Avila, where a ‘Working Dog Exhibition’ was held and the facilities of the equestrian center were visited.
- The Real Hippodrome of La Zarzuela, to see the facilities and visit some of the coaches work area and observe the dynamics of the work.
The program was attended by about thirty teachers among which there were veterinarians, physiotherapists, doctors, farriers and even psychologists, who are specialists in the different subject areas that were taught.
The reviews collected after the course have been very positive in terms of organization, interest and clinical applicability of the acquired knowledge. This feedback will be used to have a two-way communication with the students and keep improving in any future training program editions.
