Equine-Assisted Therapy program aimed at Adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder – Asociación Nuevo Horizonte

Fundación para la Promoción del Deporte Ecuestre and Asociación Nuevo Horizonte, from Madrid, establish their sixth consecutive collaboration agreement to support their Equine-Assisted Therapy program aimed at Adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Throughout 2019, 8 users of the association have benefited from this program, with individual and group sessions of 90 minutes per week between the months of January and December, led by the Terapianimal’ team.
The Mentema Space, in which the activity takes place, allows users to have access both to work on the track and to enjoy the countryside.
Motor and cognitive activities have been proposed with exercises related to the horse, handling and riding.

The small advances shown for Nuevo Horizonte users, especially in the acquisition of autonomy, the increase in waiting times, the general relaxation of the body, the interaction within the group, as well as the acquiring new skills thanks to working with horses and riding, are valuable indicators for Fundación para la Promoción del Deporte Ecuestre to continue on the path of supporting this Association.
