Adapted Material – Unicornio Azul Association

The Unicornio Azul Association develops a program of complementary therapies with animals in Yunquera de Henares, Guadalajara, activities that benefit 41 people.
The Foundation for the Promotion of Equestrian Sport collaborates with this program by providing tailored riding equipment, for the realization of therapies.

The Unicornio Azul Association differentiates 3 parts in its program: Equine therapy, assisted riding and the “We care” project, in which the users make a change of role, they become the caregivers, in this case, horses and dogs of the Andrés Molina Stud.

The people participating in the program come from 2 branches:

  • Residents and users of La Chopera Center, for adults with severe intellectual disabilities.         32 people participate.
  • People who come to the center as an individual. Thus 3 children benefit (with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Hemiplegy and a so-called Rare Disease) and 6 adults (with TEA, Down Syndrome and Cerebral Palsy).

Through this program, the Unicornio Azul Association helps the people in it to improve their physical care, autonomy and personal development and their cognitive stimulation as well as their sensory and emotional stimulation.
The Foundation for the Promotion of Equestrian Sport, through this collaboration, brings the practice of the therapies with horses closer to the people with greater difficulties, helping to make this activity more accessible.
